Email design is the red-headed stepchild of web design but with some help and guidance it won’t be for you.
Nice of you to stop by and we hope you’ll find some nice email design inspiration. This site was created mainly for one reason—it was hard finding a variety of email design inspiration. Campaign Monitor has a gallery of some really great looking emails but there wasn’t enough variety for the projects I and many others were tasked to create. Some emails require big and bold designs while some require more minimal solutions. The collection here should reflect that.
Upcoming features and version history
The first version of this site was designed and developed in about two days in early 2009. Now we are on version three and have added a few features and enhancements along the way. With version two we implemented the site into Drupal (a content management system), added pagination, a contact and file upload form, we created a resource section, added gallery RSS and links to our Twitter feed all the while increasing page load times. With version three we’ve redesigned the site to look and function a little better with some minor but fun enhancements to the overall flow and layout of the site.
How this site was built
If you’re a front-end developer nerd like me (David) you may know about the fairly new HTML5. I won’t go through the whole specification but take a look at the source code if interested. With version three we are using some new CSS3 properties like rounded corners, box shadows and RGBA. These should all degrade gracefully if you are using Internet Explorer. Please update to Firefox, Chrome, Safari or Opera if you are! Thank me later.
Note: This "About" page was written in early 2009, before many people were comfortable using html5 as a basis for their front-end code. This site was featured in the HTML 5 Gallery as one of their first sites using HTML5.
